First conditional
If clause+Present simple+ will + base form
We use the first conditional when we talk about real and possible situations.
Examples:
- If we use public transportation, it will help the environment.
- It will harm the planet if you contaminate.
- Unless we stop climate change, farmland will disappear.
- As long as humans don't protect the widlife, it will suffer.
Second conditional
If clause+Past simple+ would + base form
The second conditional is used to talk about ‘unreal’ or impossible things
- Where would you work if you got hire.
- If I were billionare, I would study another career.
- If we didn't protect the nature, we would die.
Wishes
I wish that ...
We often make wishes when want reality to be the oppsite of the true situation.
Examples:
- She wishes (that) they could be friends.
- I wish I were more optimistic.
- They wish (that) the planet would be better.
